as too many notebooks? Hell no. I am a writer. And if you are a writer then you know what I mean when I say people find me a little weird. Us writers…we live in our heads. We are constantly absorbed with endless abstract thoughts forming into fantastical little gems of magic-otherwise known as words. Did anyone else get the visual there? Yeah.
That’s what it’s all about isn’t it? Taking words and turning them into something that incites an incredible image in your mind? That’s what it’s about for me. I can be anywhere, absolutely anywhere and words will just present themselves to me. Hence the over abundance of notebooks. I can’t tell you how many times I have stopped at a stoplight and had to jot something down. Ive tried getting Siri to take the notes for me but sometimes that heffa is slow. Besides, there’s something about the feel of pen on paper. I love the scratch scratch sound of a fine tipped pen moving effortlessly across a blank piece of paper. You want mesmerizing? Well, there it is. To date, the absolute best present I have ever gotten is a small jar of ink and a feather tipped quill. Sometimes, I sit at my desk and just write my name over and over just to hear the scratching of the quill. I’ve recently started checking out books at the library-partly because I am going to go broke with all the Kindle books I buy but mostly because I miss the feel of a real book. There’s nothing quite like curling up under a blanket holding a good book.
It’s funny to me how misconceived I can be. Based purely on looks alone, at least at first. Not to sound vain or anything, God knows I’m no Dorothy Dandridge (can we say gorgeous!) but I can’t tell you how many times I have heard, “You don’t look like a nerd!” Well, to that I say, what does a nerd look like? When I get home in the evenings, wipe off my make-up and don my glasses, do I look like a nerd then? I suppose it’s just a little annoying the preconceived notions people can have. For instance, why does having a slight obsession with ratchet tv and being a lover of words have to be mutually exclusive? Why does it have to be either or? Why do I have to conform to someone else’s idea of what a book lover is? Girl please… I will bump Jeezy with enough base to make my booty jiggle and then come in the house and read The Great Expectations. It’s called being multifaceted….and I wish more people understood that.
What about you guys? What preconceived behaviors have you all felt like you needed to conform to? What responses do you have for people who try to put you in a box? Can’t wait to hear from ya.
Until next time…keep smiling.
What about her calls to you? Is it the way she rolls your name across…
I remember when I started this blog and I told myself that I would not…
